“Speak on Screen: Translating Audiovisual Content in Minority Languages”
Join an online, hands-on workshop learning how to dub and/or subtitle audiovisual content into minority/minoritised languages (MLs). Designed for speakers of MLs interested in language revitalisation, media creation, and audiovisual translation (AVT), the workshop consists of two online sessions and autonomous learning using an online training platform with the support of specialists in the field.
When: 3 x Online Sessions between 10th November and 10th December 2025
Who: Open to anyone interested! Minimum participant age is 16

General aims:
- Build stronger connections within and between communities
- Bridge the gap and foster understanding across generations
- Strengthen cultural identity by sharing audio and visual cultural content with more people whilst learning useful, transferable skills
Learning goals:
- Learn the basics of audiovisual translation and dubbing
- Produce your own translation of a short film
- Practice script preparation, voicing and synchronisation
- Practice subtitle creation and integration
- Share your work and experience with other ML creators and activists
Workshop development:
Initial session: 10th Nov, 17-18:30 CEST: Introduction to AVT basics, presentation of the platform
Autonomous work (with support): Ongoing
Support Session: 1st Dec, 17:30-18:30 CEST: Open support-focused session, Q&A with experts, space for sharing doubts, experiences, and solving problems
Final session: 10th Dec, 17-18:30 CEST: Showcase of participants' work and roundtable with ML filmmakers and creators among others
A moderated online forum will support participants between sessions and may continue post-workshop to foster an emerging community of ML AVT enthusiasts.
